Landmark Lectures – Colorado Women in World War II

Monday, Nov. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.

An archival 1944 black and white photograph of women in overalls posing near a Colorado Supply Division pickup truck.From field hospitals, small steel companies, ammunition plants, college classrooms, and sugar beet fields, World War II profoundly transformed the women of Colorado. Historian and author Gail M. Beaton interweaves historical photographs with nearly eighty oral histories — including interviews, historical studies, newspaper accounts, and organizational records — to shed light on women’s participation in the war.

Gail M. Beaton taught for more than thirty years in middle schools, high schools, and community colleges before retiring. She is a historian and  author, having written Colorado Women: A History (2012), Colorado Women in World War II (2020) and co-authored with Dr. Thomas J. Noel The Women’s Bank: A Denver Success Story (2021). As a member of the Colorado Humanities History Speakers Bureau, Gail regularly presents “Gail Murphy: Colorado’s Rosie the Riveter” to a variety of audiences throughout Colorado. She is currently researching Colorado women homesteaders for a new book.

 

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with self-guided tours available; presentation begins at 7 p.m.
