Breakfast Nook

A room referred to as the “Breakfast Nook” by the Phipps family, this became a favorite spot for informal family dining because of its intimate setting. During the 2012 renovation, discoveries were made that revealed this room had most likely preceded the dining room and library. When the common wall between the Butler’s Pantry and this room was stripped, stonework for doorways from two different periods were discovered. These doors indicated that this room was probably added after the S. Allen Long original house, possibly as part of the Springer Castle and then modified when the dining room was extended with the 1930 Kistler expansion.
