Public Outreach Program
As part of the vision of Mission Viejo Company for the New Town of Highlands Ranch, a commitment was made to convey the ownership of the Mansion and ranch buildings to an organization that would provide a plan for public use.
Over the past four decades, there were several formal and numerous informal studies by groups interested in fulfilling this promise. Starting in 2008, the Metro District embarked on an extensive public process that took the lessons from previous failed attempts and sought to include every stakeholder that had an interest in this important landmark. Out of this effort a new concept was developed that merged public access with private enterprise, a plan that would not require funding from taxes for the renovation or operation and recognized that the Mansion must be respected and not used so much that it would suffer from too much attention.
